Historical Turkish Baths in Istanbul
Ottoman bath culture, which left its mark on daily life, social order and architecture, makes Istanbul one of the few cities in the world renowned for its historic hammams. Spread throughout the city, these historic baths continue to serve their original purpose today, with centuries-old domes, heated marble platforms and intricately decorated marble details.
They represent much more than a bathing ritual. Hammams are living cultural heritage sites that bring the finer details of Ottoman architecture into the present day. Shaped by traditional practices such as kese exfoliation, foam massage and relaxing on heated marble, this experience remains a must for history enthusiasts as well as local and international visitors looking for an authentic break.
For those who want to explore the city through its historic hammams, location is an important detail. Orienta İstanbul Turizm offers accommodation options in central areas such as Beyoğlu, Beşiktaş and Kadıköy, providing convenient access to these historic baths.
Now, let's take a closer look at some of Istanbul's most popular historic hammams, including their stories, locations and everything you need to know before visiting.
